New Highs Plant Podium: Tegan Scates
New Highs’ Plant Podium features women from all walks of life, taking us to places we are yet to experience, teaching us new activities, and talking through rough patches, these women all encompass facets of being a true leader.
From plant medicine and mind, body, lifestyle, to music and small business ownership – the women of our Plant Podium are all navigating this world in notable ways.
We chatted with Tegan Scates, an advocate for the exploration of the benefits of the hemp plant. Tegan founded High on Hemp, a consulting agency and social platform designed to provide resources and opportunities for up-and-coming hemp brands.
What’s your craft?
Cultivating change through cannabis education!
What’s your favorite part of the day?
Late in the evenings. I love winding down after a busy day with a nice dinner and a documentary of some sort, allowing my body and mind the rest for the day ahead.
What or who inspires you or brings you out of creative fatigue?
Conversations inspire me. Whether it’s brand owners, friends on the other side of the world or random strangers, it allows me to tap into someone else’s world and use their experiences and advice to stimulate my mind.
How do you think the hemp trend has affected wellness?
This plant has given us a whole new meaning to the word wellness. Cannabis has created a new path of self-discovery through plant-based medicines, a road which was once filled with negative connotations. The plants versatility has allowed it to infiltrate many areas which directly impacts the mind, body and overall wellness sector. We live in a fast-paced world, filled with expectations, cannabis allows us to slow down and drop into the best version of ourselves.
What’s one tip on how to best integrate CBD into your routine?
I always take CBD with or after my breakfast, never on an empty stomach! Ideally, I’ll take it with a high fatty acid food such as avocado or eggs, to help increase its bioavailability.
How do you stay balanced?
Patience is my key to balance, an art I’m still learning to master might I add! It allows me to stay present and focus my mind on what’s necessary. Now, more than ever, it’s important to have patience with the things happening around us, but most importantly with ourselves.
What’s one app you couldn’t live without that’s not social media?
One of my goals for 2020 was to read more books. Goodreads helps me stay on track and gets me excited for what I’m about to read next!
